Is it Acne or Rosacea?
Acne and rosacea can present themselves in similar manners on your skin, typically through redness and breakouts, at times making it more complicated to diagnose. Both skin conditions may be treatable through over-the-counter products, but more severe cases should be treated by a dermatologist.
So how can you tell if it’s acne or rosacea? Use our guide below to distinguish between the two:
ACNE SIGNS, SYMPTOMS & AGES
Shows as blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, or cysts and nodules
Redness appears only around these breakouts.
Oily skin may be noticeable on your forehead, nose, and chin.
The texture of your skin may be bumpy, due to the scarring after acne clears.
Most commonly, acne appears on the face, jawline, neck, upper back, chest, and shoulders.
Although people of all races and ages can get acne, teens and tweens are most likely to experience it.
ROSACEA SIGNS, SYMPTOMS & AGES
Shows as pimple-like breakouts without blackheads
Problems with your eyes, such as bloodshot eyes, red and swollen eyelids, and discomfort
Permanent or temporary redness around the center of your face on your nose, cheeks, forehead, or chin
Large pores and visible blood vessels
Very sensitive skin that may be bothered by skin care products, makeup, sunscreen, or perfume, causing burning, itching, or stinging sensations
Mostly appears on your face and eyes, but may extend to your scalp, neck, chest, or upper back
Typically rosacea appears in people over the age of 30, although it can affect any age. It may affect all races, however, people with fair skin are more likely to develop rosacea.
