What You Can Do To Prevent Dry Winter Skin

Winter not only brings relief from the hot temperatures of summer and fall, but it can also bring a host of problems for your skin. Dry air, along with hot inside air and cold outside air, can be a recipe for dry skin, especially for those who deal with other skin issues on a daily basis.

Our top 5 tips for keeping your skin looking good during the winter months:

  1. Use moisturizing facial cleansers that are gentle and do not have alcohol in the ingredient list.

  2. Don’t forget your body. Use creamy body cleansers that are also labeled gentle and fragrance-free.

  3. Hydrate your face with a lotion that moisturizes. Find products with ingredients such as jojoba oil or hyaluronic acid.

  4. Wear sunscreen. Even though it is winter, sunscreen is still key to protecting your skin. Broad-spectrum, moisturizing sunscreen with an SPF of 30 will help protect the areas that you can’t cover up with winter gear.

  5. Reduce your use of anti-aging products. Ingredients such as glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or retinol can further dry out your skin in the cold months. Use sparingly or at a lesser concentration.
