When you think of your heart, odds are your skin is not the first thing you think of to check.
A variety of signs and symptoms could mean heart disease. If you are concerned that you are showing any of these symptoms, you should have a medical professional check them out.
Swelling in your feet and legs
Swelling can indicate fluid buildup, which can result from a myriad of different heart diseases.
Blue or purple skin tones
If your skin turns blue or purple, it could mean you have a blocked blood vessel.
Blue or purple net-like pattern
This symptom is slightly different from blue/purple skin tones. A blue or purple net-like pattern could mean you have a blocked artery.
Yellowish, orange, or white waxy growths
These yellow or orange-colored growths could be indicators of unhealthy cholesterol levels, leading to heart disease. They are typically painless and can appear on various areas of your body, including the corners of your eyes or the back of your legs. White waxy bumps can mean you have severe cholesterol levels or diabetes.
Nails curved down with swollen fingertips
This symptom could mean you have a heart infection, heart disease, or a lung problem.
Red or purple lines under nails
If you develop these lines under your nails and don’t remember injuring yourself, you could have heart disease or another condition.
Smooth, waxy bumps on your skin
If you notice these bumps, you could have protein deposits in your heart or another part of your body. They can appear anywhere on your skin and cause your heart not to work correctly due to an atypical protein buildup.
Painful lumps in your fingers, toes, or both
An infection may cause painful lumps in your heart or blood vessels. The lumps can appear in fingers and toes, and they may last a few hours or a few days. They could go away on their own, but the infection will need to be treated.
Discoloration on your soles or palms
If you discover painless discolored spots on the soles of your feet or palms, you could have an infection in your heart or blood vessel.
Non-itchy rash and fever
Symptoms of rheumatic fever include a non-itchy rash with flat spots and slightly raised edges and fever. It can lead to lifelong heart disease.
Rash, cracked, swollen lips that bleed
Kawasaki disease symptoms include rash, fever, and parched lips. It may go away on its own but can also lead to severe side effects like heart disease.
