Skin Care on a Budget

Your skincare routine doesn’t have to be costly.

Skincare products don’t have to be expensive to be effective. To take good care of your skin, focus on three basic steps: cleansing, moisturizing, and protecting.

Cleansing

Start with a gentle cleanser to remove dirt, oil, and dead skin. This step will prevent clogged pores and breakouts. You only need to wash your face once a day and after sweating. More frequent washing could irritate your skin.

Also, avoid cleansing products with alcohol if your skin is sensitive because alcohol can dry out and irritate your skin. In addition, preservatives such as parabens and fragrances can irritate sensitive skin.

Moisturizing

The best time to apply moisturizer is when it is still damp. Moisturizer traps moisture in your skin. The result is brighter and younger skin, which we all want! Therefore, moisturize your body, skin, and lips, and don’t skip this step even if you have oily skin. To prevent breakouts, look for products that say “oil-free,” “non-comedogenic,” or “won’t clog pores.”

One product to try is petroleum jelly. It is inexpensive and has many uses. It can moisturize your skin, repair brittle nails, and treat minor injuries.

Protecting

Sun protection prevents wrinkles, age spots, and skin cancer. You can protect your skin in three ways:

  1. Seek shade when you are outdoors.

  2. Wear skin-protecting clothes, such as the Coolibar line we carry in our office. Please stop by to see what we have in stock, and follow our social media accounts for regular product updates.

  3. Use sunscreen on exposed skin. The sunscreen should be broad-spectrum and have an SPF of 30 or higher. Reapply every two hours or after swimming or sweating.
