Your Skin and the Summer Sun

Your skin is your body’s largest organ. Even a small amount of sun damage that happens repeatedly can change your skin in a big way.

Over time, sun damage can create freckles, age spots, and wrinkles. Making a habit to protect your skin will reduce your risk of developing cancer.

  • Seek shade whenever possible.

The sun’s rays are the strongest between 10 am and 2 pm. If you are outside during these hours, stay in the shade as much as you can and apply sunscreen often.

  • Invest in sun-protective clothing.

Sun protecting clothing isn’t limited to just hats anymore! Long-sleeved shirts, pants, and even sunglasses can protect you from the sun! If you’re local, come and check out what Coolibar SPF protection clothing and accessories we have in stock!

  • Apply and reapply waterproof sunscreen with an SPF 30 or higher.

Sunscreen is even essential on cloudy days because the sun’s rays can still damage your skin through the clouds. Don’t forget to cover your ears and the top of your head and feet!

  • Remember that water is reflective and can increase your chances of getting burned.

  • Perform regular skin exams.

If you notice changes to your skin, including new or worrisome spots, make sure to get them checked out by a dermatologist.
